Q. Why is it called Online Banking?
A.
Because banking is an everyday term, we decided to call our product Online Banking. MDCU is a credit union, a nonprofit financial cooperative that returns its earnings to their member depositors in the form of dividends. This is much different than banks that return their profits to their shareholders. Just because we have a product with the term bank, does not mean we are going to start acting like one.

Q. Is Online Banking secure?
A.
Yes! With the Internet as the fastest growing form of commercial exchange in the world, the need for tighter security is paramount. Therefore, MDCU has taken a serious approach to security. From the ground up, we have implemented a security system that safeguards your money and keeps your account information private. MDCU has been equipped with a protected environment using a nationally recognized networking architecture consisting of data encryption throughout the transmission to prevent unauthorized access. Layers of security include automatic sign-off, encryption, firewalls, and password lockout.

Q. My account is locked out what do I need to do?
A. You will need to contact a member account representative by calling (276) 632-1679 or (800) 475-6328. Just press 0 and someone will help you out. Member account representatives are available Monday - Friday on normal business days from 8AM - 5PM.

Q. What type of personal computer do I need to access Online Banking?
A.
You do not need a special computer configuration to access Online Banking. Generally, faster processors will give you a better/faster experience. Macintosh computers will also access MDCU Online Banking Service.

Q. Are there any requirements for my modem?
A.
For optimal graphics and data transmission, you should have the fastest modem your connection will support. However, because most computer owners do not have high-speed connections, Online Banking is designed to transmit information and load graphics quickly using a 28.8 Kbps modem.

Q. Does it matter who my Internet Service Provider is?
A.
Having Internet access is the key to Online Banking. It does not matter who is your Internet Service Provider. MDCU is not responsible for charges incurred by your Internet Service Provider to access the Internet.

Q. And what about my Internet browser?
A.
To access Online Banking, you need to use an Internet browser that supports security encryption. Online Banking supports both Netscape Navigator 4.75 or higher and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher, or America Online version 6.0 or higher. Unix and Macintosh versions of these browsers will also work with Online Banking.

Q. What should I do if my browser level cannot support Online Banking?
A.
Online Banking will not allow connections from browsers that do not support high- level security encryption. If your browser level does not meet our specific security protocol, you can go to the Netscape or Microsoft home page and download the acceptable version. Most browsers are free, but you may be charged a fee by the vendor for the download. MDCU is not responsible for charges incurred for purchasing new internet browser software.

Q. Can I connect to Online Banking from within another network?
A.
You may experience difficulty connecting to Online Banking if you use a PC that is part of a network, such as a LAN or WAN that is connected to the Internet. Frequently, security barriers on many networks can prevent connection with secure, encrypted Web sites. If you experience difficulties in connecting from a networked PC, ask your network administrator about possible interference caused by security barriers.
